The Colorado Division of Wildlife has added the upper Eagle Valley to its deer feeding operations, pursuant to authorization by the Colorado Wildlife Commission. Officials said that some deer are stranded in deep snow areas. The Division also continues to feed deer and pronghorn in the Gunnison Basin at 125 sites. More than 400 volunteers in Gunnison area have been providing a necessary, substantial hand every day. The Division also is seeking volunteers for the upper Eagle Valley feeding effort. The Division seeks feeding authorization from the Wildlife Commission when it estimates that mor than 30 percent of the does will perish.

Motor Veh. on Public Lands bill moves to House Floor
HB08-1069, re motor vehicles on public lands, was introduced in the House by Rep. Kathleen Curry on January 9. Senate Sponsor is Senator Lois Tochtrop. The bill” prohibits a person from operating a motor vehicle on public lands, trails or roads unless the land is signed or otherwise authorized for such use by the controlling land management agency.”
CWF has worked on this bill in collaboration with a group including Division of Wildlife, COHVCO, CEC, etc.

CWF has been concerned that some of the proposed ski area expansions into roadless areas would adversely impact migratory corridors. In his revised petition submitted last year, Governor Ritter incorporated a seat at the table for the Division of Wildlife regarding such proposals.

Roadless: Forest Service has published rulemaking Notice of Intent for CO Petition

Roadless: The Forest Service published today its Notice of Intent in the Federal Register for the draft environmental impact statement for Colorado. This step begins the federal rule-making process for the Colorado petition to prescribe management of roadless areas in national forests located in Colorado. Governor Ritter submitted the petition to the U.S. Department of Agriculture in spring 2007.
