    “Last Glance” by Lorenzo Ghiglieri

    Limited Edition In Bronze
    Dimensions:26″h x 18″w

Few words are needed to define and reveal the power and beauty of Lorenzo Ghiglieri’s art. It becomes evident when realizing the total scope of his genius. Expressed in his own evocative style, every unique creation is original, recognizing the truth that Lorenzo’s profound diversity and skill will stand the test of time.

He has produced over 500 different bronze sculptures of wildlife, biblical, cultural, and historical themes plus more than 60 monument projects ranging from sculpting the largest grizzly bear in the world to pieces such as the twice life size sculpture of Abraham Lincoln and son Tad for the city hall in Kansas City, Missouri.

Lorenzo’s work graces the walls of the most prestigious establishments in the world. His sculptures and paintings have been presented to Pope John Paul II at The Vatican in Rome, President Ronald Reagan at the White House, Mikhail Gorbachev of the Kremlin and King Juan Carlos of the Royal Palace in Madrid. Tiger Woods, Luciano Pavarotti and General Schwartzkopf are many others who take pride in their ownership of a Lorenzo Ghiglieri sculpture.

In 1994, Lorenzo sculpted the “Official American Bald Eagle” in bronze, silver, and gold, now on display at the White House and part of their permanent collection.

Eloquent, strong, and original. People from all over the world are excited about owning his works and enthused about being a part of his career. There is in his art an inspiration, a universal appeal that has meaning and purpose. This meaning rings clear. It is powerful. It is valuable. It is beautiful and it is American.

  • Department of Interior Announced Greater Sage Grouse Listing Warranted But Precluded

On Friday, March 5 the US Department of Interior announced that the greater sage grouse will not be listed as an endangered or threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.   Its status will be warranted but precluded.

CWF’s view:    This decision providese an opportunity for landowners, sportsmen and other conservationists to collaborate on approaches that conserve and restore greater sage grouse habitat in ways that benefit all interests.  It is important to understand that the sage grouse is just one indicator of the increasing impacts on the West’s wildlife habitat.  All groups and interests need to work together is we are to sustain our wildlife heritage.     See also CWF’s report, “Northwest Colorado’s Wildlife Habitat Today: Are We Losing Our Heritage?”

  • Sec. Salazar announces oil and gas leasing reform

Oil and gas leasing policy reforms on federal public lands announced by Secretary Salazar on January 6:

New guidance to BLM field managers.  BLM is to take a more active role in determining which parcels will be offered at lease auction sales.   Secretary Salazar noted that in 1998 slightly more than 1 percent of leases were protested.  In 2008 40 percent were protested.   [CWF protested leases of federal public lands parcels that were in critical wildlife habitat – migratory corridors, greater sage grouse leks, etc. ]

New guidance on issuing categorical exclusions to eliminate their use in “extraordinary circumstances.”

[CWF, Wyoming Wildlife Federation and New Mexico Wildlife Federation wrote a Guest Commentary in the Denver Post  on November 17, 2009 stating why categorical exclusions had become a “tool” to accelerate approval of drilling permits.  “Loose rules let oil and gas drilling alter the West.”

  • Sec. Salazar Announces DOI will offer new RD&D OIl Shale Leases

On October 20, Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior, Ken Salazar, announced that the Department will invite submission of applications for a second round of RD&D oil shale leases.  A notice will be published soon in the Federal Register.  Companies will have 60 days to submit their applications for up to 160 acres.  During round one, 5 RD&D leases were granted in Colorado’s Piceance Basin.   Lessees would need to demonstrate feasibility for commercial development  to qualify for an additional 480 contiguous acres.

  • Harris Sherman Confirmed as USDA Under Sec Natural Resources and Environment

On September 10, Colorado’s Executive Director of the Department of Natural Resources was nominated by the Obama Administration to serve as U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Undersecretary for Natural Resources and Environment.  Colorado Wildlife Federation has interacted extensively with Harris Sherman and his staff at the Department of Natural Resources on wildlife and other natural resource issues.  In our view Harris Sherman and his staff have been very accessible, even handed and hard working on important wildlife policy matters.  He and his staff did an outstanding job of balancing interests during the unprecedented oil and gas rulemaking process.  As a result, Colorado gained minimum protections for wildlife in sensitive wildlife habitat.  This outcome represented a compromise solution.

We would expect Harris is tackle the array of difficult issues head on, become thoroughly knowledgeable about them and work to craft effective solutions that reflect the importance of sustaining hte West’s natural resources for future generations.
