Clean Water Restoration Act bill

June 22, 2009

The Clean Water Restoration Act bill (S. 787) moved from the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to the full Senate on a vote of 12-7.  In Committee clarification amendments were added regarding retention of exemptions for agriculture and forestry.  Please ask your senator to support the bill.

The goal is to reinstate protections for US waters as provided in the Clean Water Act (1972) until 2001 when Supreme Court cases created confusion and weakening of the Act (Ranpanos v. US  and SWANCC v. US Army Corps of Engineers).    For background, see our companion website
