As shown in the Strategy pdf doc, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has developed 7 strategies to recover mule deer populations in western Colorado. The western populations have been in decline for the last 7 years and are the focus of the strategy document. The strategies were discussed at a mule deer summit held on August 9 in Glenwood Springs.  CWF participated in the Summit.  Note that some mule deer populations are at objective, such as in Middle Park and Gunnison area.

CPW intends to set up implementation teams. The strategy document was approved by the Parks and Wildlife Commission at its December meeting.  Some of the items listed in the document have been undertaken in various areas as opportunities present.   Approval of the strategies elevates them to a statewide level.
